Expansive stretches of sandy
beach on tranquil Long Island Sound have long made Fairfield a
desirable destination. With its easy proximity to New York City,
the Fairfield beach area was established as a chic resort
community in the 1880’s and continues to be a much sought after
neighborhood. Comprising approximately 1.6 square miles, it is
home to the town’s two largest public beaches, Jennings and
Penfield, as well as the picturesque Town Hall with its historic
green. Casual and friendly, bicycles upon lawns and children
playing from yard to yard are common sights that recall a
simpler time. From the wide, tree-lined avenues that comprise
the historic district to the smaller streets that line the
shore, there is a diversity of home styles and sizes that
reflect the richness of this special community. |
